Hormone treatment

I desperately want to start T (testosterone, I'm FtM trans) I've been waiting years to get "stable enough" to start it.

If I had made it October without self harming I may have been able to start T because that would have been over a year. Since my attempt last month I messed that up. I asked my psychiatrist about time frames again today and he couldn't give me an answer.

I really don't want to wait another year to start T. My dysphoria is sooooo bad.

Re: Hormone treatment

Hi @The-red-centaur,

That sucks that you have had to wait for so long and can't get a timeframe. It sounds really tough and frustrating.

What sort of stuff do you usually do to cope with dysphoria? Maybe pull out some extra gender-confirming stuff?

Re: Hormone treatment

Hi @The-red-centaur,

That sounds like a very frustrating and difficult situation to be in. A bit of a catch 22, in that you need to demonstrate a certain level of stability before starting the hormone treatment, but not being able to start the hormone treatment contributes to the instability. Im sorry that you're going through this.

Thanks for sharing your feelings here.

Can others on the forum who have, or are struggling with self harm and dysphoria, provide any tips/ support?

Re: Hormone treatment

So sorry to hear you are stuck in this circle of needing the hormones but not being seen as 'stable' enough.

Are you able to make a collage or poster showing your desired goal? Maybe put it on your lounge room or bedroom wall for inspiration.  What about making yourself a 'reminder' card to keep in your wallet.  A statement that says what you will do to reach your goal. Eg: I will reach my goal of receiving Testosterone Injections by (insert date when psych advises one) - because I am strong enough to resist all SH urges. I CAN & WILL DO THIS!

Just a suggestion.  May sound silly and simple.  But maybe silly and simple might just work.

I wish you all the best in reaching your goal.

Re: Hormone treatment

I actually have good news in this department.
My new psychiatrist has said there should be hindrance to my mental health on looking to starting T. He's allowed me to start the application process. I know T could be a long way off but tomorrow I'm calling the sexual health clinic for an appointment to see what the process for application to the gender clinic is and how long it would take.
T is still a way off but I'm a step closer to my goal 🙂

@The-red-centaur

Re: Hormone treatment

Re: Hormone treatment

@-Rayne- best of luck for the surgery 🙂 I'm excited for you.

I have an appointment with the nurse at the gender clinic in two weeks to start the T process 🙂
