no horses. Father gave up pretty quickly trying to teach us to milk cow. we had own cows pigs and chickens, owners had sheep and cropped. ok 'mixed farming' as it was called
was a small scrub, lots native vegetation on sides of hwy like half a mile down the track.could go walking for hours on my own .used to help feed sheep., load grain, steer/drive utes, help k!ll sheep as older brother chickened out
farm was small enough like 1200 acres ie almost 2 kms length and breadth if square , which it almost was. could see light house light at night from front yard of house, despite being 20ks from coast, ok 10 maybe. we didnt get tv til like 11 years old.I used to sit in the dark in kitchen picking up interstate radio at night. radio was okay to have on,but light used too much power lol even though we didnt pay for it.
stayed with Grandma in peterborough one schoolhols was an adventure for us as so cold and milk used to appear in a box on the front lawn ha ha lol
