Re: Partner with Borderline Personality Disorder

So we are trying to get her into a private hospital to do a DBT course, she is currently in a public mh ward.

my biggest issue I have right now is my approach to her and I’m using the Set up technique from the I hate you don’t leave me book and I’m just wondering if this is the correct approach

Re: Partner with Borderline Personality Disorder

Hi @REK24 - I'm a person with BPD and speak at schools and workplaces + doing my peerworker training so if you have specific questions respond to me or direct message me! As said below all people with BPD are individuals but there are hallmarks of the condition and strategies that can be effective!

Re: Partner with Borderline Personality Disorder

Thanks @Jasper_123  I certainly will do

Re: Partner with Borderline Personality Disorder

Hi @REK24

My husband was diagnosed with BPD just over a year ago.

I've only just started I hate you, don't leave me and have been trying to implement the Set up technique. My husband read the book first and really resonated with that technique (so i started with chapter 5) so hopefully you're on the right track! It seems like you really care and want to help your partner.

My husband is currently doing his second in patient program in a private mental health hospital after a relapse. We've found that he needs increased explicit communication when we're apart, especially when he's in hospital as he starts to feel abandoned, even though he has voluntarily agreed to be there.

My husbands treating psychiatrist used to work for Spectrum in Victoria and their website has a lot of great resources for families and carers

It looks like it's been a few months since this post but hopefully this can help and you're both doing a little better now.
