Re: Word for the Day - Comfort or Play

@PinkFlamingo  you’re very kind. It’s one of the ways I amuse myself when I can’t sleep.

Then I forget about the screenshots, until I start going through my photos LOL

Re: Word for the Day - Comfort or Play

Hi @Glisten @PinkFlamingo @Shaz51 @ENKELI @Oaktree This word is a beauty.

I was told of it, a few decades ago....

Antidisestablishmentarianism is a position that advocates that a state church (the "established church") should continue to receive government patronage, rather than be disestablished (i.e., be separated from the state).

I have always enjoyed the word

onamatopoeia.

It means that a word has been formed from the sound it has, for example sizzle

Re: Word for the Day - Comfort or Play

... ok .. on a very drunken 6 day trip to Coober Pedy in eary 90s, met German backpackers amongst others..  they said repeatedly and emphatically 'wish our language had the work *uck .. was funny .. they loved saying it !!

edit: and I forgot to put my word here..!

its Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis

I still cannot say it, however it refers to a long term inflammatory lung disorder related to silica dust inhalation

I could never say it when I was teaching! ☺️

Re: Word for the Day - Comfort or Play

@PinkFlamingo  The  ‘silicovolcanoionisis is the easy part 🤓

Terrible disease

Re: Word for the Day - Comfort or Play

Indeed @Glisten ☺️

yes, it’s sadly a very avoidable condition… what made me think of it is the recent rise in silica dust related conditions in the construction industry, around manufactured stone benchtops, where evidently construction workers have been exposed while using power tools to cut and polish the manufactured stone that is produced using silica (amongst other industries and means of exposure, discussed here )

in recent times.

With kindness, I hope this isn’t a topic of sensitivity for you 🫂💜🌺🙂

Re: Word for the Day - Comfort or Play

@PinkFlamingo  WA Government joined the rest of the country in banning the use of engineered stone in workplaces due to the risk to workers of silicosis. The ban will take effect from July 1, 2024 in Western Australia.
